New Plant and Animal Species

Just when you think that life on this planet is quietly being eliminated some new plant and animal species have been discovered. In this day and age I consider this quite remarkable. I think we are used to hearing the words "endangered" or "extinct", not that new and exciting plants and animals are being discovered. To me this is a ray of hope for the continuation of life on this planet.

These plant and animal species have been found in Vietnam. There are a total of 11. As you probably figured out, these new species were found in a remote region. It is said that these species are only found in the tropical rain forests of the Annamites mountain range.

Wouldn't it be nice to discover many more new species in various places around the world?

The world has plenty of snakes as it is, as far as I'm concerned.

Daulton,

My guess is that these species have been around a long time but just were not found until recently. I don't know if they are edible.

I think it would be really awesome to find more viarous species of animals.

Mr.Carey about how many numbers do you think that they found of each species. Don;t you think that it would be really awesome to find all of those different species.Mr.Carey do you think that those species have been around alot longer than we know about.

This proves even more that Dinosaurs and other "extinct" animals could still be alive today!!!

Hey Mr.C, do you get money if you find new species of animals?

Mr.C We are hearing the words "endanged" and "extinct" more, but I think this is because we see more animals disappearing and less animals being discovered or saved when there is time. When I mean disapearing, I mean poachimg.

Melissa,

Out of the 11 species, they only mentioned that one was a snake, two butterflies, and five orchids. I would say that all of these species have been around a long time.

Shaun Carey said...

Michael,

Good point about the dinosaurs! Who knows?

Shaun Carey said...

Austin,

That is a great question! I don't know if you get money for discovering a new species but I would bet that it is more about prestige.

Dear Mr. Carey,
I believe that all species are unique. Your blog is good to know about. Thank you.

If there finding new species now, in about 50 years the will have so much technology who knows what new species they will find. And in 100 years there might not be any new species left to dicover!

Roman Volk: Mr. Carey I liked tis one because it is one of the things I've always been interested about for example not to long ago they found traces of a new species of bird. 10-1-07

Shaun Carey said...

Matt,

Excellent point about technology! Although I don't know if that means we will find all the species that exist within 100 years.

Shaun Carey said...

Brandon,

What should we do about all the rodents that will be infesting the planet then?

Anonymous said...

Put a lot of traps to kill them and make seasons for killing the rodents.

Alyssa,

Life is always, technically, changing but in this instance these creatures have been around probably for quite awhile. They have just recently been discovered.

Hey! Mr.C, I tolally AGREE with the fact of the 11 new species found in Vietnam! But when you said that it would be great to find new spieces, I totally DIDAGREED, in a way, because what if they came across a spieces that was deadly, and they couldn't contain it!!!

Anonymous said...

I forgot to sign my name on the opinion about the 11 new spieces!!!Sorry!!!

Hey micheal! I AGREE about dinasaur idea! It was pretty cool!

Shaun Carey said...

Lexi,

Wouldn't it be better to know that there was a species out there that was deadly so that we could study it and learn from it?

Anonymous said...

Mr.Carey, I was trying to work on my science project by looking on the internet, and i can't find HARDLEY ANY information on my organism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont know what to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lexi<3<3<3

That is interesting. But are they really a new species? They said that they were found in a remote area. In my opinion that means that these animals could have been around for days, weeks, months, or even years, we just haven't found them until now. If they can prove that there are new species, cool, but that would be somewhat hard to believe that this is true. Seeing how they said that these species were found in a remote area.
-Emma Kennedy

Shaun Carey said...

Emma,

By saying that these are "new species" they mean that these are new species to us and the scientific world. You are right, they have probably been around for a long time.

Shaun Carey said...

Lexi,

If you are having a hard time finding info on your organism then you might have to pick a different organism. Many "common" or well known organisms will be a lot easier to find info on.

WOW this is a very popular blob Mr. C seems like u chose the write thing to write about to me! How long did it take you to find this out? I bet they made all sorts of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$from that discovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
