Shooting in Crandon, Wisconsin

On Sunday, at about 2:45 a.m., an off-duty sheriff's deputy, Tyler Peterson, shot and killed six people and critically injured another in a small town in northern Wisconsin. Crandon has a population of about 2,000 people. The shooter was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon by a SWAT team. The victims were between 14 and 20 years old and either attended Crandon High School or had recently graduated. It was the high school's homecoming weekend. The shooter was described as "average" and "nice".

Once again this should prove to every small town in America that this can happen anywhere, no matter how big or how small. It would be great to be confident that this type of thing could not happen in a small town, but the facts state otherwise. We all need to be aware of what can happen and not assume we are in a safe "shell" just because we live in a small town.

i feel a lot of sympathy for those killed and their relatives. i mean, at 2:45 in the morning, you might be asleep, of you might be thinking "wow - wonder what's going to happen today". - and then you never get to find out, because some psyco cop blows your brains out with a gun. was the cop drinking or what? that would really suck. i hope he gets fired and has to make a living selling trash from the junkyard. better yet, they could send him to a mental institution that is equipped for people like that.

THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF MY PREVIOUS POST... it would be terrible to have that happen in Payson. *shudders* the friends of the people are getting some well-deserved sympathy from me as well. we should wear black on wensday. not just us, the whole school. i'm going to mention that to Mr. Wallace tommorow. my uncle lives in Wisconsin. i'm sure that the whole state is shaken. i knew about this even before i even looked at this blog. it was in the paper. poor people. my god. at least ONE survived. do you think they will release the names of the people that have been shot?, because
i would like to send cards to their perents saying how sorry i am that their children have been killed by some maniac cop with a gun. i am torn between feeling sorry for the people and getting mad at the now ex-cop.(i'm pretty sure he's been fired by now) :-) if this happened in Payson, i think the whole town would feel this greatly, because Payson is such a closely-knit town, it would be hard to lose sombody. you should listen to the dixie chick's song "Once You've Loved Somebody" it really gives some feeling to the events that have happened.

Hy: Mr.C
It kinda makes you think that anywhere you live in this world is dangerous. I still don't understand why he had killed them and only 14-20 years of age. Them kids had a whole life ahead of them untill that morning. Its relly sad. If you think about it you know this might be happening every single day. But it never actually gets to you untill it happens to you or near you. What would you think if this happends again but to some one thats close to you, do you think they should die even if its not your choice to make. I hope that nothin ever happens like that agian.

Mr.Carey I can't believe he shot 6 people. Wonder what he would of done to somebody if he was on duty. I wonder how all the people are going to cope with this incident.I feel really sorry about it. I wonder how the family is doing. No one thought it would happen at 2:45 in the morning. Wonder if he is like that or maybe he was on drugs or maybe he was drunk. I think he should go to jail for this. Maybe even for life. I usually don't judge people, but I kinda think he should die or something like that.

What has this world come to? Killling kids in shool?!? Its as if they have to put a full police station in schools just to keep them safe from people like that! There relitives must b devistated about the shooting, there friends and family getting kill and maby they were injured or watched someone get shot. Agree with grace he should be locked up in the coo coo house for inhumane psycopaths!

I agree that even if its a small town unexepected things can happen.Look what happened last year when the bank was robbed no one expected that.

I agree that small towns aren't as safe as people would like to believe. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. The cop had no right to take innocent lives for no reason. It gives me chills to think that we've been told to trust cops, and then a deranged one goes and kills a group of teenagers. However, I have faith that justice will be served and I hope the families can then start the healing process.
