Banning Hugs
One of the big issues in schools recently is the issue of public affection, specifically hugging. Oregon schools have banned hugging and Oak Park schools in Oak Park, IL have also banned hugging in their school. Aren't there bigger fish to fry than the hugging issue?
In the case of Oak Park I can see where they are coming from as far as why hugs were banned. They were having "hug-lines" in between classes and it was jamming up the hallways and kids were getting to class late.
I personally see nothing wrong with a hug, if it is just a hug. I believe that many kids in today's society do not get this type of affection at home and I do believe they need it. There is nothing like a hug to show that you care about someone and/or their feelings. What will these schools do if there is a catastrophe involving their schools? If a student gives someone a hug will they be suspended? I do not agree with other signs of affection in school such as kissing or "making out".
What are your feelings on this issue?

this is the first one i saw so im commenting on it. i agree with your opoinion. whats wrong with a hug? nothing is the answer so i think its ridiculous to band hugging from schools.
the comment right above this one is AARON EDWARDS. sorry i forgot to put my name on it.
The hugline problem in the Chicago area sounds like an administration problem--namely they aren't in the halls between periods monitoring the progress of students between classes and acting as traffic cops (maybe they think it's demeaning?)
As is typical in most institutions rather than actually apply brainpower to solve the problem, they over-react with a ban.
Here's a suggestion: set up some simple guidelines for the kids.
No huglines between classes, keep em short and sweet, no unwanted hugging, and if you're late for class you get busted.
And I would not want to live in the People's Republic of Oregon. This isn't the first crazy thing they've done.
An old fogey "student of life" :)
i think it is really stupid. That schoolis gittin so strict that if you hug someone you can be suspended.i am a person that likes to hug alot and if payson put that i would have to transfer to another.

pravoslavniye,
That is what I thought. I would think that administration would be able to handle this without it getting out of control. Good suggestions!
I think that is really weird that people are blocking the hallways for people hugging!!!!
I think that is really weird that people are blocking the hallways just to give someone a hug! from Leaha Cunningham
I agree that is so dumb to ban hugging. Hugging is a good way of showing that you care for someone, huging in between every class is alittle to much huging. A hug eveyonce in awhile is ok but between every class is to much,I can see them banning it because of jamming the hallways. If a person is hurt like emotional then one of their friends might want to hug them showing that they are there for them to talk to and that they care for them. And yor right about childern not the type of affection they should get at home.

Its so stupid that schools are trying to ban hugging. I agree with you on some kids my not get that affection at home so they need to get it some where so why not school. its not like they are going around kissing all over or something. a hug is really just saying you care for that person.
It's a lil' off the deep end, but the students are late to class due to the "need" of a hug, which is pretty ridiculous. so I don't care suspend them. - lucy kugler
I think that banning huges would be a stupid idea. If we did that there would be alot of susspended students.

I agree with you Mr. Carey. I also agree with pravoslavniye's comment, have guidelines. I think people shouldn't hug someone unless they want to be haugged and also don't be tardy because you were hugging someone.
I also agree with you Mr. Carey on not kissing. It's okay to hug but kissing shouldn't be allowed. I think it is gross walking down the hall and seeing people kissing each other, especially since it is at school.

Yes I do agree with the hug thing it shouldn't be banished, but the kiss thing I totaly agree no one want's to see you and your lover smackin lips, but there is really nothing wrong with a hug, so if anything should be banished instead of hugs it should be kissing. jodie kennedy
Whats the big deal about a hug? why ban it? There just kids having a good time why ruin there day! They may be blocking the halls for a hug so exuse them or make the school days longer both are exeptible. Its pointless, I get hugged in school wether i like it or not by my friends and my sisters friends and I'm not complaining(even thou i hate it).

i believe there are bigger issues than hugging because i get a hug from at least 3 to 4 people between every hour and i don't think i should be able to get suspended for that when at some times you can get in a fight and get suspended. if the schools are going to ban hugs then there is going to be alot of people getting suspended!!!!!! A hug involves two people you can't force some one to hug you.

Depending on the situation, I think that you should be able to hug people if they want to be hugged. Agreeing with Hannah, I think walking down the hallway seeing people kiss each other is just gross. I also think that it's crazy that there was a " hugging line" in the middle of the hallway making people late to class.
