Who Needs a Pacifier?

We have to do something about gun control in this state, and nation! "What do you mean?", you ask. Well check this out. A 10-month-old was issued a legal gun permit! How can this happen? His father filled out the gun permit but did not expect it to go through. He did not even lie on the application! He had a picture of his son with his correct height and weight. A spokesman for the state police said that their is no age restrictions for applicants. Please tell me this: If a 10-month-old can get a gun permit, who can't? To me, this is a scary situation. The father did say the gun, a 12-gauge Beretta shotgun, would probably be kept at his father's house until "Bubba" was at least 14. What do you think?

Mr. Carey,
I think it is a little bit ridiculous that a man wants to get his 10-month old son a gun. What purpose would a 10-month old baby have with a gun. A young person growing up with a gun and knowing it is his to use could cause the fathers son to make irrational decisions. Even if the son would not get the gun until he is 14, knowing it is there for him to use is scary. What would happen if the father did not have the gun properly contained; the boy could use it, and not only hurt himself, but other people too. Another problem could be if the father happened to be a man who served jail time for the improper use of a gun. The father could use his sons gun to hurt other people. Overall, I think that if you want to buy a gun, you should be the one to buy and you should think about the consequences before you buy something that could eventually hurt someone.

Mr. C.

First I think there is nothing wrong with a father purchasing a gun for his son, daughter, wife, or anyone else that has the legal right to have one. You are worried because the 10 month old baby was given a legal gun permit. You are worried that just anyone can get one---you are correct. In the great state of Illinois you can get a PERMIT to be a firearm owner--that is actually what the permit is--- FOID---Firearms Owners Identification. This does not give you the right to purchase a firearm. The child must be 18 to purchase a long gun---for those of you who are not up to speed on firearms, a shotgun or rifle, or ammunition for them---and 21 to purchase a pistol. You think it is horrible that anyone can get a permit? I think it is horrible to have to have one. If you have a firearm in your possession--Grandpa's old double barrel hanging over your fireplace mantle that isn't even capable of firing anymore, your Dad's single shot 22 caliber squirrel rifle that he helped feed his family with during the Depression, or a 50 caliber recoiless that you shoot holes in junk cars with at your buddies farm, you better have a FOID card. If you don't you are a criminal in our great state. You are subject to large fines and/or jail time if someone that doesn't really know you or like you much turns you in to the police. When the State Police kick in your front door with the BATF in SWAT fatigues in tow and they knock you to the ground and point an M-16 to the back of your head you'll be needing that card. I know, I know I went off of the deep end here---not gonna happen right. I hope not for all of our sakes. You see that is where we are on gun issues---way, way left, or way, way right. You want middle ground? What would that be? You can only have 1 pistol, 1 rifle, and 1 shotgun? Well the problem with that is soon it would be 1 shotgun that can only shoot 1 shell at a time and then it would be 1 nothing. The old addage "Give 'em an inch and they'll take a mile". Driving fast in automobiles kills a lot more people than firearms do, so I guess it would be ok to tell everyone that you can have 1 car and it can go no faster than 65 MPH---that's the highest legal limit in our great state. Want to travel out West where it's 80 MPH--- too bad. Get the picture?
My son is 14 and has had a FOID card since he was 8---is that wrong? Do you think he is a threat to society? Maybe---all of could be. Has he been taught what those firearms are capable of and for what they are and are not to be used for? You bet!!
As far as the state or nation and their gun control I say this. You can only make laws for people who abide by the law. Just like you make speed limits or any other laws, you punish those that break the laws. The baby nor his father have broken the Illinois Penal Code. Too bad he thought it a smart thing to do for his son--he didn't need that permit for a long time coming. What the whole blog says about our great state is this---we really don't care about who owns or uses a firearm, we just want the $5 fee for the card, and if the state can get their way it will be $500. By the way it's only good for 5 years so if you get one and think that "Ah I don't really have any guns anymore and don't need to renew it." think again---your name is in the Illinois State Police records as a gun owner and if they should ever pass a law that tells us to turn our firearms in, they'll be knocking (or kicking) in that front door of yours. (And mine also I'm afraid, but I'm going to jail because the Framers of our Constitution knew what they were talking about---want to turn a country of free people into a slave nation, start by taking away their means of defiance.
Sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings with any of my comments, but you stepped on a nerve and I get tired of the media and the gun banners blaming inanimate objects for killing innocent people. People kill people---guns are just one of the ways they can do it.

That is really mind-blowing! Why would a man get a gun permit for his 10-month-old son. That's insane. Like Catherine said, what purpose does a 10- month old boy have with a gun. Sorry to say but, I think you should have to be 18 to get a gun permit. I really can't believe that!
