No One is Invincible

I am always saddened to hear when a young person dies but when a young person in the spotlight dies it becomes a reminder to all of us that we are not invincible. Josh made some poor choices on Sunday morning and he paid the ultimate price. His blood-alcohol level (0.157) was twice what the legal limit is in Missouri and he had 8.55 grams of marijuana in his car. Josh was also talking on the phone while he was driving. Let's all remember that he was human. We all make bad choices at one time or another. His just happened to be amplified due to his talent in baseball. Those of you that are Cardinal fans, and everyone else, should remember Josh for all the good things such as being part of the World Series Championship bullpen and being a good friend. I think we can all learn at least two things from this terrible accident. One, don't drink and drive, and two, we can all (at any time) be in harms way.

Mr. Carey,
Although I feel sorry for Joshes family and friends, I think that he made very poor decisions. I believe that he must have had problems long before the accident because no one in their right mind would have in their posession marijuana. You said that everyone makes "bad choices" at some time in thier life, but seeing as this one cost him his life, I think that we shouuld consider it a little more than a bad choice. I think from this, we can all learn that you need to be concious of all the decisions you make and that you should resist temptation when you hear your phone ringing while you are at the wheel.

Catherine,
First of all, I think the comment section of this needs spell check for you! Ha! Ha! As you will grow older you will find that always doing the right thing is almost impossible. I am not saying that you should not try to do the right thing but mistakes are part of life (and in this case death) and hopefully you learn your lesson from them before something like this happens.

Mr. Carey

I agree with you totally mistakes are a part of life and if if make no mistakes how will you learn how to do it right. In his case though the mistakes cost him his life. this is just what i think though!!!

I think Mr. C. is trying to show that no matter who we are, or what our position in life is, that we make mistakes. Sometimes they are vey big ones that can't be fixed--as was the case with Josh Hancock. But most of the time God smiles on us and gives us that second chance (and sometimes many more). I recently read an article in the Herald Whig that I thougt was most appropriate for the lesson we can learn here. It reported that it's not about the mistakes--remember we ALL make them, for NONE of us is perfect. It is what we do to correct the mistakes or the way we deal with the results of the mistakes that make the difference between the experience being a positive or a negative. The author of the piece in the paper gave an example that I will keep in memory about mistakes----there are two ends on the head of a hammer---one end is the claws---they are used to help with the mistakes cause by the other end! I hope that all of you young people can see that it is inevitable to make mistakes. I know that sometimes when I was your age I thought that mistakes were all I made---couldn't get anything right. That wasn't true then and it isn't true now---we make mistakes and we try to correct them and deal with them the best way we can. I hope all of your mistakes are small ones!!!

Mr. Schwartz,

Thanks for the comment! I hope all the kids that read my blog realize what you are trying to say. You made some good points. In my mind mistakes are not a bad thing unless you refuse to do something to correct them.

Catherine and Mr. C,
I personally agree with both of you. My opinion of the situalton is that we all DO make mistakes adn need to learn from them, that's how i agree woth Mr. C. At the same time a belive he shouldn't have been doing all three of these things, it was a terrible choice. I also belive, even if he did do these kind of things, he should not have been doing them esecially on his way to a baseball game, in which his team was counting on him. I think it was a terrible fait but he was the one who made the bad choice, in which he was punished for. This is just my opinion though.

I agree with all of these comments. Sure he was doing wrong, but we ALL make mistakes. Sometimes we don't even realize what were doing until it is too late. Catherine, you need to know EVERYONE makes mistakes. You can't blame them for it, it's a way of life. Like Mr. C said you will realize it is almost impossible to not make mistakes. Mr. Schwartz makes some really good points and I agree with them 100%. We all know what we should do, but sometimes we just do what we want to do instead. His alcohol level was high but he didnt think of it at the time he was drinking. He was talking on his cell phone while driving, almost everyone does. The marijuana I do agree, though, was a bad choice but again he wasnt thinking. I feel sorry for all of Josh's family, friends, and fans. I know how you must feel.

Mr. Carey, Sarah, Lacey, and steve schwartz,
You are probably right that everyone does make mistakes, even me, and it is very crucial that I learn from these mistakes.

even tho i wasnt a cardinal fan i realized that it doesnt matter who u r for, wat matters is that u learn from this experience that happened to josh...also all these comments that say he made bad choices...he did but if his life wouldnt have been taken...he would have learned from his mistakes just like every human being would....its just upsetting that he DID make those wrong choices and now his family and friends and fans have to go through this and i give my heart out to all those who have been suffering for josh...wat im trying to get out just like everybody else in this blog...try to make the right choices and if u dont then learn from ur mistakes.
