Fixing Global Warming?

Is it really too late to stop, or at least slow down, global warming by just making adjustments in our life style? In the article, Fixing climate carries big costs, it sure sounds like it. Some of the fixes could cost the public big money when it comes to electric bills. I would say that "most" of us have not done much to help the environment until recently, say the last two years or so. With the press coverage of global warming, and of course "An Inconvenient Truth", I think that many Americans are trying to make some changes to challenge the global warming problem. I say let the studies of scientists over the next 1-2 years determine whether or not we need these drastic measures mentioned in the article.

Mr. Carey,
I think that you are right in saying that until now, no one was really concerned about global warming. I think everyone should do as much as they financially can to slow down global warming, but as you said, wait and see to find out if we need to take such drastic action.

Holy cow! You agree with me? I better save this blog for future reference.

Shaun,

I think the argument that you refer to goes hand in hand with the positive attitude blog. It seems like people just have a defeatist attitude and not even try to do anything. Why don't we look at trying to slow or stop it rather than quitting. I agree that more studies need to be done and see what will happen.

Aaron,

It does seem that people today are only concerned with the present and do not care enough to make sure that the Earth is fully intact when their descendants have to live on this planet. WE MUST THINK AHEAD FOR OUR CHILDREN AND OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN!

I am not sure why we have to slow down mitigating global warming just so the dull-witted morons in the room can keep up. Seriously - where have you been these last 20 years? Can't you understand the science of the IPCC? Stern Report? Haven't you seen "An Inconvenient Truth".

What is missing from the body of knowledge that makes you want to wait for more info?

Please forgive my harshness, but right now I have no tolerance for idiots. How can you have an opinion like that when you you haven't considered the facts? Do you go on 'gut feel'? Truthiness?

Oh... look... I am sorry for the tone I took. There is no need for me to be rude.

To get back on track... it does not cost a lot at all to beat the worst effects of climate change.

Not beating it will cost a lot more.

wadard,

I understand how you feel. I am battling several individuals where I teach on whether global warming even exists! I know it exists and I don't know how anyone can say that today's world population and our habits have not contributed to it. In my blog I the main point I was trying to make is that I think many people in our society today (me included) are making some big changes in their life to benefit the environment. (By the way, thanks for the apology.)
